Making It Our Own.. à la Marques Way
I started this blog to share with you our journey of turning our house into a home. As you may remember, my husband and I knew from the beginning we wanted a fixer upper. I don't know if it's all those shows on HGTV that inspired us, but we knew we wanted to find a place we could customize to our own liking.
If you are thinking about remodeling a home, here are a few of my tips:
1. Make a list of all your dream projects. Use Instagram and Pinterest for inspiration. This part is always fun!
2. Set a budget. I always say I've been blessed with great taste but a small budget. Needless to say, this part is no fun, but very important.
3. Realize and accept most items on your dream list won't be able to be done at once. (Hey... if your budget can, that is incredible... you go girl/boy!)
4. Decide which project you want to start with and focus on that one. Umm... this is more Sergio's advice... I hate it (probably already broke it)... but it's the best one and so true.
So where are we starting? We've decided to start at the heart of a home-- the kitchen. Here are a few pictures of our original kitchen... not awful just outdated and a little rusty.
After years of creating secret Pinterest boards and being inspired by so many blogger's Instagram accounts, I pretty much had a good idea of what I wanted for our kitchen. So after showing Sergio one white kitchen after another, he knew (and accepted) we were getting a white kitchen.
So what's the first step when remodeling... DEMOLITION! Let's just say, this part isn't easy, but definitely fun.
Here are all the things we did this Memorial Day weekend: (1) Removed the old tile from the kitchen, family room and master room. (2) Removed the old kitchen cabinets, countertop, backsplash and appliances. (3) Tear down the wall dividing the kitchen and family room. Thank you to our family and friends for making this three-day demolition a reality!
Stay tuned for more kitchen updates. You can follow my Instagram account where we share videos and pictures as it all occurs.
Love Always,
Jenni
